Markets Remain Volatile as BSE Ends Higher While NSE Closes Lower Amid Weak Investor Sentiment

Indian equity markets ended on a mixed note as BSE closed higher while NSE finished lower amid weak investor sentiment. The session witnessed sharp intraday volatility, uneven sector participation, and cautious trading behaviour, with broader market weakness outweighing selective gains across benchmark indices.

Indian equity markets witnessed a broadly stable yet highly volatile trading session, with benchmark indices closing in opposite directions amid weak investor confidence. While the BSE index managed to post gains, the NSE benchmark ended in negative territory, reflecting cautious sentiment among market participants throughout the day.

During the trading session, the BSE index experienced significant intraday volatility, moving within a range of 715.44 points before settling higher at the close. The NSE index also witnessed sharp fluctuations, recording an intraday range of 240.75 points, indicating sustained uncertainty in market direction.

At the close of trading, the BSE index rose by 64.42 points to settle at 73,983.18, marking a gain of 0.09 percent. In contrast, the NSE index declined by 27.15 points to close at 23,214.95, registering a fall of 0.12 percent.

Market participation remained broad-based on the National Stock Exchange, where a total of 3,378 companies were actively traded during the session. Out of these, 1,038 companies recorded gains, while 2,258 companies witnessed declines. The remaining 82 companies showed no change in their share prices.

Market analysts attributed the day’s cautious movement to subdued investor confidence, noting that persistent volatility and lack of strong directional triggers led to a restrained trading environment. Participants were advised to remain cautious amid ongoing fluctuations in the broader market.

The session highlighted the fragile balance between gains and losses in Indian equities, underscoring the continued influence of investor sentiment on short-term market movements.
